wahtever nordica photography
Comment by Anonymous, April 26, 2010 at 17:01wahtever nordica photography did with these pictures is awesome! i cant figure out what the effect they used was, but it was very clever. i like how the pictures are all consistent in feel and for a photo essay, this was creative and original. i cant say anything for the list of people used, but photos are a entirely different thing. i say congrats to nordica for a job well done / these photos are wonderful and new!
The list of people featured
Comment by Anonymous, April 26, 2010 at 10:13The list of people featured here is probably why everyone is bitching and moaning. And probably the complaints are justified, but that's the way it is with lists. The photography in the feature though is great - I cant stand seeing the same polished, bland photography in every issue of BCB. This is different and I love it. So from a photography perspective - which is what this is - this was a success. Different is good!

Comment by Anonymous, April 24, 2010 at 23:25The critisicm is because this kind of unresearched factually innacurate drivel has no place being in BC Business, what used to be a leading publication, about, you know ,business , and not lransom lists of pat-yer-own-back, make-me-wanna-puke social media wankers who never innovated anything in their lives. If tweeting a lot makes someone an innovator in any way i'd like to know how?
Also, the photos for the most part were pure shite, but that is secondary to the off the mark nature of this weak article.

Comment by Anonymous, April 23, 2010 at 16:18This is a highly entertaining article. These people are not innovators.. They use the tools that other people create and take credit for it.
Garbage.
The next big innovation for Vancouver or any web tech will be that these guys will get pushed to the side and the real people who build these things get a writeup.

Comment by Anonymous, April 21, 2010 at 21:36What's with all the bitching? Seriously. It's just an introduction to some people using social media with varying degrees of success. I'm cool with that. There were a few people in the article I hadn't heard of and am now going to follow. And the pics are good too. Who wants to see the usual stuffy poses?

Comment by Anonymous, April 20, 2010 at 16:53We could make cases of wine from the whiners.
Being a small business owner, meeting the payroll, looking for viable new future selling opportunities for your clients cannot be easy.
I give credit to those who are doing and trying - and am ashamed for those who are criticizing and whining from the sidelines.

Comment by Anonymous, April 20, 2010 at 15:08After reading through the article, reviewing the photos, and reading the comments, I have to say my biggest complaint is regarding the quality of work produced by Noridca. As another commenter pointed out, the photos are in some cases downright unflattering; the wide-legged stance used in the shots is unattractive for just about everyone. The explanatory paragraphs are fine for some photos, but others give the reader a clear feeling of inexperienced writing. A suggestion for improvement: don't write using the same vocabulary that you would use to talk with.

Comment by Anonymous, April 15, 2010 at 18:43Here we go, another list of self-promoting social media morons who don't seem to accomplish much beyond talking about themselves. I'd like to speak to some of the actual clients of these "innovators" and get some firsthand feedback on their supposed winning formulas. I cannot believe would give mention to that Hummingbird604 idiot yet not Hootsuite or RadarDDB or anyone who has actually contributed to the social media space in a real way. Pro tip, guys? Going to 'social media club' parties and patting yourselves on the back doesn't in any way make you innovators. MAKING THINGS does. What a waste. BC Business you do nothing but add to the bullshit circle jerk that is Vancouver.
Great article! what about
Comment by Anonymous, April 14, 2010 at 08:05Great article! what about Ben Nevile who runs sportsbutter and mainsocial? 50,000 fans on facebook. http://facebook.com/sportsbutter
or booooooom.com, 20,000 fans on Facebook. http://www.facebook.com/booooooom
Many of those people aren't
Comment by Anonymous, April 11, 2010 at 16:41Many of those people aren't social media innovators but people who use social media a lot and would be more accurately described as social media promoters and promoters of their own social media consulting/speaking businesses/paid blogging gigs/blog payolya and/or egos.
Nothing wrong with self promotion or spreading the word about social media, most are nice people, but just using social media a lot and promoting yourself and your social media friends doesn't make you innovative.
Would have been a lot more accurate post if it was entitled social media marketers.
If you want actual social media innovators you might want to consider social signal

What a garbage article this
Comment by Anonymous, April 8, 2010 at 23:27What a garbage article this was... Let's just crown each other kings and queens of all media and get over our selves already!
BC Business we expect more of you than this, whether online or off. Since the print business has rigor mortis setting in fast, better figure it out soon. Here's a crazy idea.. how about using online polls to nominate and elect BC leaders and innovators (people's choice) in various categories and then followup with the back stories and some interviews?
Some innovators here ... but
Comment by Anonymous, April 8, 2010 at 21:00Some innovators here ... but mostly a fairly safe listing of power users who self-promote efficiently. That's all good, but ... this piece was breathless and less substantial than I'd expect from BC Business. Punch up your game, folks. I do support you for trying something new, though ...

Comment by jbucher, April 7, 2010 at 20:14Thanks for all the comments people, even the vitriolic ones. I commissioned this article from Nordica, and it's the first of a series. It's certainly not the final word in innovation in local social media. That's coming. We'll be putting together more slideshows of new media game-changers in Vancouver and B.C., and I'd be very grateful for suggestions (with a justification) for people who should be on that list.
You can leave them as comments on this piece, or email them to me directly at jbucher AT canadawide.com with "Media Innovators" in the subject line.
Many thanks, and high regards,

Nice list of some great
Comment by Anonymous, April 6, 2010 at 16:04Nice list of some great people but I would only classify a few as real innovators, the rest are all power users mostly.

Comment by Anonymous, April 5, 2010 at 21:01What were the criteria to be included on this list - be freinds with the reporter?? Seriously, only a minority of those listed qualify by Twitter Rank or Influence. See for yourself: http://wefollow.com/city/vancouver_british_columbia Lazy, uninformed journalism.

There are a lot of friends
Comment by Anonymous, April 5, 2010 at 08:17There are a lot of friends on this list, and a few people I've admired from afar. I am so proud to be a part of the social media community here in Vancouver, in my small way. There are so many people to learn things from here.
Cheers for the list!
Congrats to all. However,
Comment by Anonymous, April 5, 2010 at 08:12Congrats to all. However, totally egregious oversight to have missed Invoke Media, who created HootSuite.
Congratulations to all!
Comment by cybelenegris, April 4, 2010 at 22:25Congratulations to all! Thanks Marc Smith (Amuse Consulting) for the mention of Webnames.ca & .TEL!
Thinking Ryan Holmes of Invoke Media (Hootsuite) missing from the list.
BTW, Nordica, very cool photos and they all tell a story; just look in the eyes.

A very incomplete list.
Comment by Anonymous, April 4, 2010 at 13:38A very incomplete list.
Some pretty big participants in Vancouver's Social Media space are missing from this list. No mention of Hootsuite on the social media app side? Or some of the local agencies like RadarDDB (and their work with CTC) on the social marketing side? Incredible oversight for an article with this title.
Awesome! Knowing most of you
Comment by YamD, April 3, 2010 at 18:45Awesome! Knowing most of you online/offline & considering some of you personal friends is priceless. Kudos to all of you for making it to this list & doing a great work!
Congratulations to everyone.

Nothing thy Nordica do would
Comment by Anonymous, April 3, 2010 at 08:41Nothing thy Nordica do would fall under innovative. They have simply copied the like of kris krug and early adoptee of social media. At best their works is amateurish. Their online presence nothing to brag about and franskly 12k Twitter followers between 3 of the so called social media pioneer is weak. There's so students with over 8k unique and more innovative then any of the above..
Better background research would have shown that these guys are mearly drops in a sea of innovative BC folks...
