B.C. Minister of Environment

What’s your top goal for 2010?
To continue to innovate and find ways to provide environmental stewardship while supporting new jobs and investment. One example is clean and green energy development. B.C. has the potential to be a real powerhouse, pardon the pun, in terms of new energy development that doesn’t contribute to greenhouse gas emissions.

In your world, what needs to happen to make 2010 a success?
We have to keep working on things we’re pursuing, not lose our focus and make sure the 2010 Games are widely viewed a success. That will benefit B.C. not just for years to come but potentially for decades.

What keeps you up at night?
In addition to my wife’s cat? There’s always lots more work that needs to be done. I’m often thinking about the challenge of climate change and, these days, the upcoming meeting in Copenhagen [December’s United Nations Climate Change summit] and what the world’s response to it will be.
