You like it? I spent about $300 or so on it. It’s from Holt Renfrew, but I’ll shop anywhere. I got these pants from a little Chinese store in Sinclair Centre. They’re a mix of silk and linen – they were only $60. I would never spend thousands of dollars on clothes.

You head an all-male tech company. What’s that like?

Being the only woman here just happened. Quite honestly, I never look at gender. I just like people’s brains and minds – whatever they happen to be encased in doesn’t really matter. The vibe in the office is very laid-back and casual. Just Docker-type pants, shirts and sweaters. I’m usually in slacks or a skirt with a jacket. I guess I tend to be between formal and casual.

You’re originally from England. Do you go back often?

Yes, I go back every year. I’m also half-Italian so I spend time in Italy, too. Britain’s great for street fashion. I like to go to the stores on Oxford Street and look at what people are wearing. It’s very outrageous and different. Italians seem to take that style and clean it up.

So you’re a fan of shopping.

No, I hate shopping. I usually only go when I really need something. Sometimes I’ll take my husband, because he’s really good at picking things out. He picks out all the gifts for our daughters. They’re 20, 18 and 15; they love clothes and makeup a lot more than I ever did.

What do they think of your style?

They think I’m a fuddy-duddy and they’re always trying to style my hair. They’re making me grow it out. It’s naturally curly, which drives me crazy, so I end up chopping it off. I’ve always envied people with straight hair. If I had it, I’d wear it spiky. I love that look.
