“I have two immoderate comforts. One is the pleasure of at least two really fine cups of coffee every day; the other is a high-quality university education for my children. Do I have to choose? Well, hopefully some of the kids will be able to get on at Starbucks.”

“I travel, like, three months out of the year. But the last luxury I would cut out is entertaining for my friends: taking them out to restaurants, throwing parties at my house. Trips and travel are great and fascinating, but, when it comes down to it, if you have no one to share things with, what’s the point? Even now, with the gallery being slow, instead of cutting back on the Christmas party, I took 40 people out to dinner.”

“I’m a bit of a hedonist, and I’ve decided that the one thing I can’t live without is oysters. Oysters from Finest at Sea, on Arbutus. And Prosecco – it’s cheap bubbly but it’s really good. Prosecco bottles are great because you can clean them out, take the label off and then put your dish soap inside so you don’t have an ugly soap bottle sitting on your counter.”
