Green isn't a word you typically associate with a scolossal retail giant like Walmart. But times are changing and the big guns have got to do what they can to save what's left.

The CEO of Walmart Canada David Cheesewright wanted to bring together delegates from major companies in North America, to collaborate and discuss their plans for a greener future. He explains, "We've got all our major competitors here. Would you ever have expected to see Loblaws and Walmart in the same room working together towards a common goal?"

His message: That the only way we're going to live more sustainably is if everyone comes together. He took it upon himself and his company to highlight the business case for going green. Iconic enviornmentalist David Suzuki, who delivered the keynote address earlier in the day, sounded a similar note, "Without the private sector working with us we are never going to make it. It's important that we come together."

He went on: "That's what excites me about what Walmart is doing, and inviting people like me to exchange ideas. We have to, I believe, stop fighting, and work together."

The fact that Walmart has

Comment by kimberly, May 12, 2010 at 04:27

The fact that Walmart has decided to go green is a major psychological booster for other companies. It's true, Walmart needs to reinvent itself for being a sustainable business model, although it's difficult it's also possible. When the giants go green they create new business networks for that and thus they demand for a change in every link of the chain. Way to go Walmart!
